The Chinese Secret to Good Skin

While traveling I always think it’s a fun idea to pop into supermarkets and see what’s similar and different from home. In the U.K. I loved the descriptions of things– packages wouldn’t advertise plain old strawberries, they were “delicious, fragrant strawberries.” Strolling down the beauty aisle in China, you’ll see the usual suspects– shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and whatnot, but then you’ll also spy a fair selection of what’s not so familiar, sheet masks.

While you can find them in the US, I’ve found them to be much more popular here. If you haven’t come across them before, sheet masks are basically thin baby-wipe-esque sheets soaked in moisturizing or brightening lotion which absorbs into your face in the 10-20 IMG_7664minutes you keep it on. You then splash water on your face to remove any residue and go about your business.

I use them sporadically and I’ve seen some slight improvements in my skin– especially if it was dry before. I picked these bad boys up at the store Mumuso, Miniso‘s cool Korean cousin.

In good fun, Alex and Carson have volunteered to demonstrate the sheet masks for your viewing pleasure.

Step 1: Start with clean, slightly damp skin.

Step 2: Peel off the plastic sheet and put the mask on your face.

Step 3: Keep on your face for 15-20 minutes. Not going to lie… these things look good on no one in this phase.

Step 4: Peel off and enjoy your newly refreshed skin.
